Donna Friess, Ph.D. Author
"I am humbled by the thousands of people across the world who have confided to me that my books or my story have changed their lives"

When Donna Friess began to write her first book, Cry the Darkness, her intention was only to share her story with her own children. Before long, as a result of being the subject of a cover story in the Los Angeles Times Magazine (August 2, 1991), she became more comfortable sharing her case. It soon became apparent that the media attention could assist her in her desire to get stricter laws passed to stop child sexual abuse. Today her books have reached thousands of readers and the autobiography, Cry The Darkness has been published in seven languages and has enjoyed the distinction of being the best selling non-fiction book in the history of the Egmont Publishers in Denmark.  Her Circle of Love book focuses on the skills and attitude it takes to become a more competent communicator in the world.  Donna truly believes that each of us is precious and that if we can learn to believe in ourselves and utilize more effective interpersonal tools, our lives will become more fulfilling. She believes that our lives are our creative expression and that we can become who we dream of becoming.

As a fifth generation Californian, Donna has always been interested in history, oral history and especially in her roots.  The California history books have given Donna an opportunity to work with people and to collect oral narratives. Donna finds the human story to be both fascinating and inspirational. She says, Our histories help us to understand who we are and how we can more forward in life.

Currently Donna has written a collection of true animal stories for children which she is illustrating and intends to publish in the near future.
